A 33-year-old woman from Werugha village in Taita-Taveta County is desperately seeking the government's assistance in recovering her two children who were allegedly abducted by her estranged husband two weeks ago.
The children, a 15-month-old baby girl and a four-year-old boy, were taken from their home while their mother, Ms. Flora Mwamburi, was busy in the kitchen.
Ms. Mwamburi had moved back to her father's home in Werugha in August this year after living with her husband in Bomet County since 2015.
Her estranged husband followed her to Werugha village and attempted to convince her to move back in with him, but she refused.
On November 14, he visited again, accompanied by a cousin who works with security agencies, and fled with the children while Ms. Mwamburi was getting water from the kitchen.
Ms. Mwamburi rushed to the Wundanyi Police Station to report the incident, but was not issued with an OB number until the following day.
She was advised to report the matter to the children's office because it involved minors and their father, but she insists that the police should have acted more urgently.
When contacted, Wundanyi Sub County Police Commander Mr. Onesmus Kombe said he was aware of the case and the mother's plight, and that a signal had been sent to Bomet County to establish the whereabouts of the man and the children.
He urged the mother to be patient, stating that the relevant government agencies were doing everything possible to trace the man and the children.
Wundanyi Sub-County Children Officer Mr. John Menja said the office had already written a referral letter to the mother to have the case attended to at the children's office in Konoin Sub-County in Bomet County.
