Manchester City's title hopes took a hit on November 30, 2019, when Jonjo Shelvey's incredible late equaliser secured a point for Newcastle at St James' Park.

Despite taking the lead through Raheem Sterling's 14th goal of the season, City's hopes of a maximum points haul were dashed when Shelvey beat Ederson with his strike in the 84th minute.

Shelvey's goal was a stunning response to Kevin de Bruyne's long-range effort, which had given City the lead in the 82nd minute.

City's loss is a significant blow to their title aspirations, with the team now eight points behind Liverpool, who host Brighton on December 1, 2019.

Manchester City's dominance was evident early on, with David Silva's deft backheel setting up Sterling for the opening goal.

However, Newcastle equalised through Jetro Willems, who calmly slotted past Ederson after receiving a square pass from Miguel Almiron.

City's Gabriel Jesus and De Bruyne were thwarted by Martin Dubravka after the break, and despite creating 24 efforts on goal, they were unable to secure a win.

Shelvey's late equaliser was a testament to Newcastle's resilience, and a reminder that City's defensive structure left a lot to be desired.

City's attack played their part, but at times, their defensive structure left them exposed to the pace of Newcastle's wingers, particularly Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, and Willems.
