As the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report is finally out, it's time for Kenyans to dissect, examine, and scrutinize its contents. The report is a solution to keeping the fabric of this country together, and it's essential that we consider its recommendations carefully.
Kenya is more than 50 years old, and we have many habits that need to die. These habits are not good for the nation and have led to divisive politics and attitudes that can destroy nations. It's time for us to move forward and adopt a new approach.
Reports like the BBI are a great starting point, but they require great people to fulfill them. We need to work together as a nation to achieve our goals and make sure that everyone is on board. This is not just about a particular political sect, but about the average citizen understanding the importance of the report.
There are countries that have been rebuilt after wars, and it's possible for us to do the same. However, it requires leadership that is passionate about change and growth. We need to instill an attitude that we perform well when we are observed, but also teach our children to be decent human beings.
From our deplorable healthcare to toxic waste in our food, we are at a place where the value of life is somehow not that valuable. Our core must want the best for ourselves and the country for the BBI to work. It's more than just a position in government; it's about values and attitudes that we need to seriously think about and instill.
Otherwise, it will be another report that we continue to quote for decades to come, struggling to be actualized like reports that have come before it. We need to take action and show our children that we mean business. As the saying goes, 'monkey see, monkey do.' It's not what we say to our children that matters, but what they see us do.
