On September 22, 35-year-old Andear Mwangi passed away at Nairobi South Hospital due to a liver condition. Her family claims that her Nigerian husband, Charles Emedo, has been trying to take her body from Umash Funeral Home without their consent.
According to Andear's mother, Lydia Mwathathi, 'There is nobody that is buried by somebody unknown when the parents and relatives are not aware.' The family claims that Emedo is working with his relatives to forcefully take the body from them.
The dispute has led to a court case, with the family presenting their matter in court on October 23. However, Emedo did not appear, citing advice from his lawyers. The two parties are now set to attend a court hearing on December 5, with the police stating that the body will not be moved until the court matter is heard and determined.
Andear had been living with Emedo for 9 years and they had three children from the union. However, the family claims that they are not officially or customarily married.
