As I reflect on the 2019 local elections in Tanzania, I am reminded of the resilience of the Tanzanian people. Despite the landslide victory of the ruling party, which has been achieved through suppressing the opposition, our will to live and live together remains unbroken.
It's easy to get caught up in the 'official' facts and figures, but I choose to look beyond them. The reality is that Tanzania is not an exception to the rule. The country's politics is a reflection of the broader trends in the world, where democracy is under threat and the rule of law is being eroded.
As I observe the situation in the US, I am reminded of the dangers of unchecked power. The world is a complex and fragile place, and it's essential that we prioritize the well-being of our people and our planet.
Despite the challenges we face, I am heartened by the resilience of the Tanzanian people. We may not have the luxury of a functioning democracy, but we have something more valuable – our will to live and live together.
As I look to the future, I am optimistic that we can build a better world, one where our people come first. We may not have the same level of economic development as other countries, but we have something that is worth more than all the wealth in the world – our sense of community and our will to live together.
So, let us not lose sight of what is truly important. Let us prioritize our people and our planet, and work towards building a better future for all.
