As the country looks to the future, the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) plays a crucial role in shaping the education system. Introduced to impart basic skills in learners, CBC is designed to encourage specialization, thereby expanding the job market and reducing unemployment among the youth.
According to experts, the learner-centred curriculum will promote research, enabling learners to create solutions to environmental, social, and political challenges in the nation. This aligns with President Uhuru Kenyatta's big four agenda, which seeks to drive universal healthcare, manufacturing, affordable housing, and food security.
Unlike the 8-4-4 system, where learners often rely on the government for employment, the new curriculum is expected to produce self-reliant individuals, particularly in technical fields. This shift is seen as a key component in achieving the country's Vision 2030 and the big four agenda.
