Kenya has been chosen to host the prestigious 27th edition of the Africa and Indian Ocean World Travel Awards (WTA) on October 3, 2020. The announcement was made by the Chief Administrative Officer of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Joseph Boinnet, during the 26th edition of the WTA gala ceremony held in Oman on November 28, 2019.
The ceremony will be held at the KICC in Nairobi, attracting hundreds of leading travel and tourism companies, as well as decision-makers in the region. The event aims to position Kenya as an attractive destination for business tourism, also known as Meetings, Incentives, Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).
Ms. Nana Gecaga, CEO of KICC, stated that preparations and partner engagements have already begun to ensure a memorable event that will boost the tourism sector. KICC will be the exclusive host partner for the event, and an attractive pre and post-event delegate package has been prepared to allow delegates to experience Kenya at a special subsidized rate.
Ms. Gecaga further emphasized that the event will be a fun-packed weekend for delegates, with pre and post-delegate packages offering the opportunity to experience Kenyan magic. Delegates will be able to pre-book specially created trips to Kenya's beautiful white powder sandy beaches by air or by Madaraka Express train.
A culinary experience showcasing Kenyan mouth-watering cuisines will take place on the night of October 2, 2020, before the gala ceremony. More information will be communicated later on the WTA website, which is set to go live in January 2020.
Kenya's tourism sector has already received recognition, with Nairobi being named Africa's Leading Business Travel Destination in June 2019, and KICC being awarded Africa's Leading Meetings & Conference destination.
