On Friday evening, a resident of Nairobi's Lang'ata estate captured a video of a hyena roaming the area, sparking concerns about public safety.

The wild animal was seen strolling past several gates near Deliverance Church at around 11pm, with one Demas Kiprono urging the KWS to take action.

According to Kiprono's social media post, the hyena would stop for a few minutes, look out into the distance, and then start walking again.

The person who filmed the video from inside a car followed the animal for about 40 seconds, with no one spotted in the area at the time.

Lang'ata estate borders the Nairobi National Park, and the incident has raised concerns about the potential for wildlife encounters in the area.

As reported by Citizen Digital, a man had his leg amputated in July this year after being bitten by a hyena in Machakos, while a woman had her eyes gouged out by a hyena in August last year while answering a call of nature on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Responding to Kiprono's tweet, the KWS said:

Good morning Demas. We took note of this and alerted our team. In case of further wildlife sightings, we request that you call our toll free line, 0800 597000 for records and follow up. Thank you. — KWS (@kwskenya) November 30, 2019
