On November 30, 2019, Mining Cabinet Secretary John Munyes appointed Macharia Irungu as the new Managing Director of Kenya Pipeline, replacing Hudson Andambi who has been acting since former boss Joe Sang was arraigned in court over graft charges.
Macharia Irungu, who currently serves as the CEO of Gulf Petroleum Corporation, has over 28 years' experience in the oil and gas industry.
According to a statement from the CS, Irungu was the best candidate out of the 88 candidates who were interviewed for the top job by the company's board of directors.
Irungu has over 28 years' experience in the oil and gas industry and is also a member of the Total Group, where he serves as the strategy director.
He was hired to the plum job by Mining Cabinet Secretary John Munyes.

“The decision to appoint Irungu follows a rigorous recruitment process conducted by the KPC board of Directors, and which was observed throughout by officials from the Public Service Commission.
“The Board received 88 applicants for the position, and interviewed a final shortlist of 9 out of which I picked him from the top three,” said the CS.
