Published on November 30, 2019, Jumia's decision to exit Tanzania comes as the company seeks to streamline its operations and focus on more promising markets.

According to Quartz, Jumia has been struggling to manage operations and achieve even growth across several underdeveloped markets in Africa.

As the company continues to navigate the challenges of e-commerce in Africa, it has announced plans to pivot towards fintech by spinning off its in-house payments solution, Jumia Pay.

Additionally, Jumia plans to introduce payments through QR codes and power mobile point-of-sale systems, marking a significant shift in its business strategy.

With Egypt and Nigeria emerging as the largest markets, Jumia remains the largest e-commerce operator in Africa, operating in 12 countries.
