Deputy President William Ruto has urged leaders to put aside their political differences and engage in constructive discussions over the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) recommendations.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony for nominated MP David Sankok in Narok on Friday, Dr Ruto emphasized the need for leaders to respect institutions and the rule of law as they debate the BBI implementation.
“We must respect all institutions as we respect the rule of law. We must always submit ourselves to the rule of law and the Constitution while debating on the way the BBI reports can be implemented,” Dr Ruto said.
He noted that consensus must be reached on the implementation of the BBI recommendations, which include sections to be implemented by Parliament, ministries, and potentially through a referendum.
“We should by all means discourage us verses them contest in the debates about the BBI recommendations,” Dr Ruto added, urging Kenyans to put aside divisive politics and forge ahead as one great nation.
Present at the ceremony were Governor Samuel Tunai (Narok), MPs Ken Aramat (Narok East), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Soipan Tuya (Women Rep, Narok), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), David Sankok (nominated), Faith Gitau (Women Rep, Nyandarua) and Christopher Langat (Bomet).
The leaders expressed their support for a parliamentary process in the implementation of the BBI recommendations.
