On November 30, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured that every child who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination would be admitted to secondary school under the 100 percent transition policy.

According to the president, the policy aims to ensure that all Kenyan children receive basic education until Form Four.

Teachers in private primary schools in Mombasa have welcomed the assurance, saying it will ensure that those who finish primary education can progress to the next level without hitches, regardless of their marks.

Senior teacher Dickens Kaduki commended the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders for conducting KCPE and KCSE national examinations successfully.

Private school teachers, including Boniface Maticha of St. Irene primary school, expressed happiness that their pupils will secure a slot in secondary schools, regardless of their performance.

They also believe that the policy will reduce exam malpractices and cheating across the country.

As one teacher noted, 'the push for 100 percent transition will ensure high secondary school enrolment and help the many young learners to realize their full potential.'
