Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, has been in remand since September 2018, accused of the murder of Nairobi businesswoman Monica Kimani. On Friday, he surprised many by updating his Instagram page, which he had largely left untouched since his arrest.
According to his Instagram account, Jowie has been in remand for over a year, and his last post before Friday was a poster announcing his appearance on a local radio show on September 11, 2018.
However, on Friday, he posted a new picture of himself with a woman, captioned with a smiling face emoji, showing them enjoying themselves at an entertainment joint.
The image, which was posted on November 29, 2019, has left many wondering about Jowie's activities while in remand. Inmates in Kenyan prisons are not allowed to possess or use mobile phones, raising questions about how Jowie managed to post the picture.
It is worth noting that Jowie's former fiancée, Jacque Maribe, had deleted all pictures of the two from her Instagram page in February, including those from their engagement.
On Thursday, Jowie appeared before Justice James Wakiaga, where he explained that he has been suffering in remand and made a fresh bail plea. However, the judge adjourned the hearings, noting that he will give a ruling on the bail application on February 13, 2020.
Earlier this month, Jowie claimed in an interview with the Sunday Nation that he was locked up in an isolated room, which harboured a lot of mosquitoes at night.
