Narok Senator Accuses Government of Favoring One Ethnic Group in Job Appointments

November 30, 2019

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has accused the government of favoring one ethnic group in job appointments, sparking a heated exchange with Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.

Olekina claimed that the government is promoting ethnic favoritism, citing examples of top officials appointed to state-owned companies.

"Ethnic favoritism is being promoted in this country. This is the most corrupt government Kenya has ever had," Olekina said in a tweet.

However, Wambugu rejected Olekina's claims, accusing him of trying to politicize ethnic tensions.

"Senator, let's calm down. This country has only six institutions. We won't accept politicking in the Maasai region by spreading ethnic hatred against the Kikuyu community," Wambugu tweeted.

Wambugu also listed several state-owned companies, including Kenya Power and KenGen, which he claimed were dominated by one ethnic group.

"These companies are being run by people from one ethnic group. This is a clear example of ethnic favoritism," Wambugu said.
