Italian MP Proposes to Girlfriend in Parliament ¶
Italian Member of Parliament Flavio Di Muro made headlines on November 28, 2019, when he proposed to his girlfriend, Elisa De Leo, during a debate in Parliament.
According to reports, Di Muro had been invited by the Speaker to contribute to an earthquake debate when he sprang the surprise proposal. The 33-year-old received applause from his excited colleagues, but was later reprimanded by the Speaker for flouting House rules.
Di Muro's proposal was met with cheers and applause from the deputies, but he was not so lucky with the Speaker, Roberto Fico, who castigated him for his actions. However, when asked after the House business ended, Di Muro confirmed that his girlfriend had said yes.
Initially, it was not clear whether Di Muro's girlfriend had accepted his proposal, but he later confirmed that she had said yes. The couple plans to get married on a date they will decide on.
