On November 30, 2019, Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama made a generous donation to his roots in Muthurwa, Nairobi, by purchasing a 40-seater bus for Country Bus FC and Muthurwa Boxing Club.
Country Bus FC, where Wanyama spent his formative years as a footballer, is affectionately known as the 'Lion of Muthurwa' due to the midfielder's humble beginnings in the area.
The bus, purchased through the Victor Wanyama Foundation in London, underwent clearance at the port of Mombasa on Friday and is expected to arrive in Nairobi on Saturday, where it will be branded.
Wanyama, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur, expressed his gratitude to the clubs that played a significant role in his development, saying, “East or west home is always the best. I can never run away from the fact that I was born and bred in Muthurwa and that Country Bus FC nurtured my talent. I am happy to give back to the team in a small way and hope this will be the beginning of the team’s ascendancy to the top,” as told to Nation Sport.
The bus will not only serve Country Bus FC but also Muthurwa Boxing Club, which is known for producing talented boxers.
Country Bus FC is currently ranked ninth in the Nairobi East County League with three points from two matches.
