This archive report was first published on 30 November 2019.

On November 29, 2019, a 16-year-old girl named Valerie Njeri went missing from her home in Naivasha, Kenya. Her parents, who were out of town for a burial, had left her to man their shop. However, when they returned in the evening, they were unable to contact her, and it was not until the next morning that her body was found by neighbors.

According to police, the girl's 17-year-old friend, who was also at home for the school holiday break, had lured her to their house on the afternoon of November 28, 2019. The boy then committed the heinous crime, stabbing the girl over 10 times and leaving her naked body under his bed overnight before dumping it outside her parents' gate.

The suspect's mother claimed that she had sensed something was amiss when her son woke up early, saying he was going to study. However, she had no idea that he was capable of such a heinous crime. The girl's father, John Nduno, was left heartbroken, saying that they had never imagined their son was capable of such a thing.
