On November 12, 2019, a mass exodus of 350 workers from the inspectorate department in Mombasa County took place, marking the end of their contracts. The affected staff had been employed after the 2017 elections and were involved in enforcement, traffic marshalling, and revenue collection.
According to County Communications Director Richard Chacha, service delivery had not been affected by the exit of the workers. However, he did not provide the exact date when the contracts ended.
Chacha stated, "We knew they were leaving and put in place measures to address the shortfall." Governor Hassan Joho had promised to name a fresh team in a few days but has not yet done so, leading to intense lobbying for the positions.
