According to the BBI report, released on November 26, 2019, top police chiefs, including Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai and his two deputy inspectors general, Edward Mbugua and Noor Gabow, will have new performance indicators.
The criteria to gauge their success or failure at work will be pegged on reported crime cases, as outlined in the Annual Crime Report, which is released by the police every year.
Additionally, all officers working under the top police chiefs will be evaluated based on the number of crimes reported in their areas of command.
The recommendations aim to improve police performance and put pressure on the police to deliver more for the public.
Police Spokesman Charles Owino stated that the police are ready to adopt the new guidelines, saying, “We take orders from our employers. Should such recommendations come, then we have no option but to adopt them.”
