On November 28, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded in Mwingi, Kitui County, as police rescued 10 teenage girls from rental houses where they had allegedly been defiled by a local pastor.

The matter came to light when parents of one teenage girl, who scored 304 marks in KCPE, stormed the pastor’s sanctuary demanding to know her whereabouts.

According to eyewitnesses, the commotion attracted villagers, who alleged that the pastor had lured more girls to the church for prayers over alleged demonic attacks.

Once the girls stepped into the pastor’s sanctuary, he allegedly indoctrinated them, and they refused to go back home.

The pastor managed to evade the crowd, leaving behind his wife, who was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Resident Peter Mutuma, the Mwingi Central OCPD, confirmed that 10 girls had been rescued and were being interrogated over the matter.

He assured that the girls would later be reunited with their families and appealed to parents to be vigilant and watch out for the kind of people their children interact with, especially during the long holiday.
