On November 29, 2019, two sisters from Embu County were arraigned in court after being accused of murdering their father.

Esther Kagendo Mwangi, 28, and Emily Wanjira Mwangi, 24, were reported to have attacked their father with a blunt object until he died.

The sisters were accused of using the KSh 5,000 they had saved to fund their brother's funeral, which was held in Embu County.

According to their mother, Tabitha Weruma, their father, Zachary Kiura Mutindi, had spent the money on alcohol after going missing for three days.

"We were shocked to find out that the money we had saved for our brother's funeral was used by our father to buy alcohol and go missing for three days," one of the sisters told the court.
