Mo Farah, a four-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion, announced on his YouTube channel that he will return to the track to compete in the 10,000m at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Farah, 36, retired from track athletics in 2017 to focus on road marathons, breaking the British record. However, after watching fellow athletes compete at the European Indoor Championships, he felt the urge to return to the track.
“Next year I’ve decided for Tokyo 2020 I’m going to be back on the track, I’m really excited to compete and... give it a go in the 10,000m,” Farah said.
Farah, who will still have to qualify for Tokyo, has enjoyed running marathons, including winning the Chicago Marathon in 2018 with a European record time of 2:05.11.
He was also asked about his former coach Alberto Salazar, who was handed a four-year ban by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency in September. Farah worked with Salazar from 2011 to 2017 but has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
