Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel will continue to operate in Somalia under the United Nations-backed African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) until peace is restored, President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed.
Speaking on November 28, 2019, at the Lanet military camp, Uhuru emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between KDF and AMISOM forces in the region.
"Our soldiers will continue to work with those of AMISOM until peace is achieved. They are well-equipped to deal with the terrorists," Uhuru said.
The KDF was deployed to Somalia in 2011 following a series of attacks by the al-Shabaab militant group.
Uhuru assured that the KDF personnel will receive necessary training to effectively counter the terrorist threats.
