Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge has been nominated for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, announced on Monday, 25 November.
Every year, the BBC recognizes outstanding British sporting talent, and this year's nominees include Eliud Kipchoge, Simone Biles, Siya Kolisi, Megan Rapinoe, Steve Smith, and Tiger Woods.
On 13 October, Kipchoge made history by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours during the INEOS challenge.
"Honoured to be nominated amongst these great athletes, all in their respective sports," Kipchoge tweeted on 29 November.
Simone Biles, an American gymnast, has won five world championship gold medals and increased her record-breaking medal tally to 25.
Siya Kolisi, the first black captain of the South African Rugby team, led the Springboks to a 32-12 victory over England in the Rugby World Cup final.
Megan Rapinoe, an American soccer player, scored six goals and helped the USA win the Women's World Cup in France, claiming the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards.
Steve Smith, an Australian cricketer, had a successful series, helping Australia retain the Ashes despite being ruled out of the third Test due to a concussion.
Tiger Woods, an American golfer, produced a remarkable comeback story by winning the Masters at Augusta, 11 years after his last major, and equalled the PGA Tour record of 82 tournament wins with victory at the Zozo Championship in Japan.
The public will now decide the winner through a live show on Sunday, 15 December, where votes can be cast by phone or online.
