Kenya is set to showcase its golfing talent at the 2019 Magical Kenya Ladies Open, a prestigious tournament that will be held at Vipingo Ridge's PGA Baobab Course from December 5th to 8th.
The event, sponsored by Magical Kenya and Safaricom's M-Pesa, marks the first time the Ladies European Tour will be played in East Africa.
Five Kenyan players have been selected to represent the country, including Nyali Golf Club's lady professional Bhavi Shah and amateurs Naomi Wafula, Agnes Nyakio, Mercy Nyanchama, and Margaret Njoki.
Naomi Wafula, an amateur from Golf Park, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to play at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, saying, 'It is a great feeling to be invited to play at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open. It will be a great learning opportunity as I look to turn Pro in the near future.'
Wafula, who recently played at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort leg of the Safari Tour golf series, is currently working on her short game and is looking forward to a great showing at Vipingo Ridge.
Other Kenyan players, including Mercy Nyanchama from Vet Lab and Agnes Nyakio from Sigona Golf Club, are also eager to take on the challenge and learn from the professionals.
According to Phyllis Kimbo, Chairperson of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union, the tournament is a tremendous opportunity for Kenyan players to be exposed to world-class golf and interact with and learn from the Ladies European Tour professionals.
Kimbo added, 'Kenya is honoured to host this prestigious ladies' event, and the Kenya Ladies Golf Union is extremely proud to have partnered with the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Heritage, the Ladies European Tour, Vipingo Ridge, M-Pesa, and promoters U.COM.'
