Published on November 29, 2019, police in Kirinyaga County launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old man who was discovered to have been growing bhang inside his house.

The suspect, John Mwangi, had been living in a rented house at Kimbimbi trading centre, but the plants were found in his parents' compound at Redsoil village in Mwea Sub-County.

According to Nyangati location Chief Emmacuate Wanjiru Njoka, police officers raided the house on Thursday and uprooted all the stems that had been planted.

The plants were taken to Wang'uru police station and will be used as exhibits in court once the suspect is arrested.

Speaking to the authorities, the suspect's father, Richard Muriuki, said, "I was wondering who was stealing manure in my compound, only to discover it was my son Mwangi who I reported to the authorities."
