On November 21, 2019, a group of friends, including Ezra Mwangi Njenga, went for a swimming expedition at Sagana River. Tragically, Ezra drowned that evening, leaving his family and friends in a state of shock and grief.
Ezra, a fourth-year student taking Actuarial Science, had two weeks remaining to tackle his final exam before the tragedy struck. His body was swept away by the raging floods to Gatiki Bridge in Mukurweini sub-county, where it was found a week later.
A statement from the University students' council read, 'We would like to inform you we have recovered the body of Ezra Mwangi Njenga who went missing on 21, 2019 while swimming at Sagana falls.'
The council secretary general, Franklin Manyara, sent condolences to the family, friends, classmates, and the entire Dedan Kimathi fraternity for the loss of their colleague. 'We have lost a great mind and a hero in our institution,' Manyara said.
The deceased hailed from Kinangop constituency, Nyandarua County, and his family had been camping in Nyeri for the last one week awaiting recovery of his body.
