Heavy Rains and Floods Expected in Kenya ¶
Kenya is bracing for heavy rains and floods from November 29 to December 3, with the Met department warning of potential flash floods in several regions.
The areas of concern include Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kisii, Migori, Nyamira, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Machakos, Makueni, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Nairobi.
Residents in these regions have been advised to look out for potential flash floods, while those in landslide-prone areas such as Aberdare ranges, Mt Kenya, and other hilly areas have been cautioned to be on high alert.
The Met department had previously warned of heavy downpour and floods across Kenya on November 18, which led to massive landslides in West Pokot county and the death of more than 40 people.
According to the Met department, the wet weather being experienced over the western and southern parts of the country is expected to continue this week, with heavy rainfall of more than 30mm in 24 hours expected from November 29 to December 3.
"The heavy rainfall is likely to spread over parts of central, Nairobi, south east lowlands on to Tuesday, December 3," the Met department said.
On November 22, massive landslides occurred in West Pokot county after heavy rains in the region.
