On a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo to celebrate the 80th birthday of TP Mazembe, FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his desire to see an African league created.
Infantino proposed investing over $1 billion in stadiums on the continent, stating that an African league could generate at least $200 million in revenue, placing it among the top 10 leagues in the world.
He also announced plans to launch an appeal to collect $1 billion to provide every African country with a football stadium meeting FIFA standards.
Infantino, who took over as FIFA President in February 2016, aims to help African football compete on a global level by implementing various initiatives, including the creation of an African referees' league and the professionalization of refereeing.
