Published on November 29, 2019, Jennifer Shamalla, a nominated member of parliament representing special interest groups, has made a strong case for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to consider paying spouses of leaders.

According to Shamalla, the BBI should help ensure that the spouses of leaders are enlisted in the government's payroll, a move she believes will greatly benefit them.

Shamalla emphasized that the spouses of leaders also share the frustrations and pressures that their better halves in government encounter and it is fair if they received pay for that.

She argued that if one gets a political office, recognized nationwide as a respectable member of the political class, it would only be logic enough that the spouses of such leaders are in turn recognized by the government.

Shamalla described the BBI report as a blessing in prime time and pleaded with the principals to consider factoring the spouses of the leaders in the payroll.
