Published on November 29, 2019, a week after the murder of Star journalist Eric Oloo, the suspect, Sabina Kerubo, has not been arraigned, raising questions about her potential status as a state witness.
County Commissioner Michael Tialal expressed his concerns about the police's handling of the case, stating, “I have realised the police are lying to me, but I have my intelligence that they want to use Sabina Kerubo as a state witness and that is why they have not arrested her.”
Eric Oloo and Sabina Kerubo had been cohabiting for about a year before his murder.
The body of Eric Oloo was found at Sabina Kerubo's house in Ugunja, with blunt force trauma and cuts to the head.
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has demanded the direct involvement of the DCI boss George Kinoti in the investigation, citing the need for the deployment of homicide experts from the DCI headquarters under the command of a neutral senior officer.
Wandayi also expressed his concerns about the public's lack of confidence in the current state of investigations, stating, “Patience among the public is fast waning and tension is understandably building up not only in Ugunja but across the county of Siaya over this matter.”
