On November 29, 2019, investigative journalist John Allan Namu made headlines with a new TV deal to produce a crime show called 'Kina' with Maisha Magic.

According to Tim Okwaro, Director for East & Southern Africa Channels, the move to collaborate with Namu marks a new direction for the channel.

‘We have linked up with John Allan Namu, who is a prolific investigative journalist in Kenya,’ Okwaro said during a media showcase in Johannesburg.

Okwaro added that the channel aims to tell human interest stories that impact society, and the partnership with Namu represents a new and exciting space for the channel.

Sanaipei Tande, a Kenyan singer and actor, is also a lead character in the TV drama, playing the role of a villain.

In the trailer screened in Johannesburg, Sanaipei’s character is seen driving a tractor in a field, chasing after a screaming woman who then falls into a pit.

Sanaipei then buries the woman alive, setting the tone for the crime show.
