On November 28, 2019, Mumias Sugar Company welcomed Francis Wabuke as its new acting general manager, a move aimed at reviving the struggling miller.
Wabuke, a former employee of Booker Tate Company, reported to work on Friday last week. He brings with him experience from his previous roles at the miller and Nzoia Sugar Company.
The appointment comes as the receiver manager, Ponangapalli Venkata Ramana Rao, works on a revival strategy to ensure the miller kicks off milling operations in January next year.
The plan involves repairing and maintaining the factory, restarting ethanol production, and preparing 1,500 acres of land for cane planting within six months.
Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation and Allied Workers (KUSPAW) Secretary-General, Franci Wangara, said the receiver manager had assured the union that the firm would absorb all workers when operations resume.
