On November 28, 2019, a 30-year-old man tragically lost his life in Nairobi's Buruburu area after consuming a herbal medicine being sold by a self-proclaimed herbalist.
The victim, Harrison Maina, and three of his colleagues had been approached by the herbalist who claimed his concoction could cure stomach upsets. However, after taking the medicine, they began experiencing severe pain and were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital by their boss, who owns a hotel in the area.
Unfortunately, Harrison Maina was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other three are currently undergoing treatment. The incident has sparked an investigation by the Buruburu police, led by Adamson Bungei, who warned that the chemicals used in such concoctions are unregulated and pose a significant risk to unsuspecting consumers.
According to the police, they are actively searching for the herbalist responsible for the deadly medicine. The incident highlights the dangers of unregulated herbal remedies being freely hawked in major towns by individuals masquerading as herbalists.
