On November 28, 2019, Thunder basketball team was set to face EMYBA in the semi-finals of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's playoffs, seeking redemption after a similar stage exit in 2018.
Thunder had crashed out at the same stage in 2018, losing their series against Ulinzi Warriors 3-2, despite winning the opening two rounds.
The team's head coach, Sadat Gaya, said they had managed to get their injured players back and had prepared for EMYBA, who were known for their full-court press and transition basketball.
Meanwhile, in Mombasa, defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) basketball team were set to face their all-time rivals Ulinzi Warriors at Makande Gymnasium for Game One and Two on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Both matches would be played at 4:00 PM, with KPA seeking to do what they did in last year's final, where they emerged champions.
