On November 28, 2019, economist David Ndii, a vocal critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency, made a shocking statement, throwing his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto for the 2022 presidency.
According to Ndii, the BBI report and the handshake initiative are designed to prolong the Kenyatta and Odinga dynasties. He has termed the report a 'POLITICAL FRAUD.'
Ndii, who has never been afraid to speak his mind, has taken a bold stance by siding with Ruto, despite having previously criticized him. In response to a question about President Kenyatta's call for a new Kenya following the BBI launch, Ndii said, 'Uhuru Kenyatta stole an election. Raila traded people's quest for electoral justice for a personal, secret deal. The victims are excited by diversionary red herrings that have nothing to do with this impunity as we hurtle to another election up for stealing.'
When asked why he was supporting Ruto, who has been accused of being an accomplice to electoral fraud, Ndii replied, 'Let me be clear. The imperative for progressive forces is to send both Ruto and the dynasties home. But if God forbid we must suffer one evil let us suffer Ruto—him we have a fighting chance. If we don't uproot the dynasties in 2022, they will enslave up to our grand children.'
Ndii's decision to support Ruto has raised eyebrows, given his previous role as a strategist for NASA, where Raila Odinga was the principal in the 2017 elections. Ruto has been linked to numerous corruption scandals in Kenya, in which taxpayers' billions were stolen.
