Mombasa Shooting: Police Officer Fires Shots, Kills Man Trying to Grab Gun

On November 29, 2019, a fatal shooting occurred in Mombasa when a police officer fired shots at a man who was trying to grab his gun.

The incident happened in the morning when the man, who was not identified, approached the police officer who was on duty guarding a First Community bank.

According to Evans Monari, the Mombasa County Police Commander, the police officer was attacked by the man with a stone and fell to the ground.

"The incident occurred at around 3:00 am when a police officer was attacked by an unknown man who was going to a nearby house for a short visit. The man hit the officer with a stone and he fell down. He then tried to grab the officer's gun but failed. A few minutes later, the officer regained his senses and fired several shots at the man," Monari said.

The man's body was taken to a morgue for an autopsy, and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
