Jowie Remains in Custody as Bail Application Hearing Set for February

Journalist Jacque Maribe's boyfriend, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, will spend his second Christmas in remand after a court denied his bail application.

Justice James Wakiaga directed Jowie to remain in custody until a ruling on his bail application case will be heard on February 13, 2020.

Jowie had pleaded with the court to grant him bail, arguing that life was tough in solitary remand cells and that he would not leave the country if released.

However, the court found him a flight risk due to the fact that he had no permanent residence, and his previous bail applications were unsuccessful.

Maribe, who was released on a KSh 2 million bond or KSh 1 million cash bail with three sureties, was Jowie's co-accused in the murder case.

The duo was arrested after they were accused of having a hand in the murder of Monica Kimani, whose body was found in a bath tub.
