As the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championships approach, Nairobi Water Queens are intensifying their preparations to retain their title, set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from December 2-8.
Published on November 28, 2019, the team's manager, Caroline Kusa, expressed confidence in their chances despite the absence of injured players Mitchelle Odhiambo and Winnie Miyenda, who sustained knee injuries during the African Games in Morocco in August.
"We are doing the final touches and tightening all the loose ends in our training as we are scheduled to depart to the host city on Saturday evening," Kusa said.
The team has identified Brenda Musambai and Eunice Oginga as suitable replacements for the injured players. Oginga, who is returning from maternity leave, and Rosa Ambongo, were not part of the team that won the title last year in Zanzibar.
Kenya's men's representative, Black Mamba, are also competing in the tournament, aiming to dethrone the reigning champions, Democratic Republic of Congo Police.
Team coach Martin Abunde expressed his team's determination to succeed, saying, "We have always come close but fell by the way side at the final stages, but this time things will have to change."
