Published on November 28, 2019, a devastating road accident occurred along the Mai Mahiu-Limuru road, leaving at least twenty people injured.
A lorry heading to Naivasha from Nairobi lost control and rammed into nine cars a few kilometres from Mai Mahiu town, causing widespread destruction.
Area residents took advantage of the situation and looted tens of flour bales and mattresses from some of the vehicles involved in the accident.
Police struggled to control the surging crowd eager to loot more, with the situation worsened by the heavy downpour pounding the area at the time.
Matatu driver John Mwangi described the accident as occurring so fast, with the fast-speeding lorry crushing into several personal cars, a Nissan matatu, and a trailer.
He attributed the high number of affected motorists to the narrow nature of the road, making it impossible for the affected drivers to drive off.
A passenger, Jane Wamuyu, who miraculously escaped death after the trailer hit the side of their vehicle, recounted their ordeal.
Wamuyu's driver was however injured and rushed to a hospital in Mai Mahiu town for treatment.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident, stating that plans were underway to tow the mangled wrecks to Mai Mahiu police station.
Initial investigations pointed to the trailer that was going downhill, with the driver among those injured.
