On a day when many teams were struggling to stay afloat, Gor Mahia's Steven Polack was basking in the glory of a 100% record in October, earning him the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month Award.

Published on November 28, 2019, Polack's impressive run saw his team trounce Nzoia Sugar 2-0 and narrowly dispatch Zoo and Kariobangi Sharks each by a solitary goal.

"I'm humbled to receive a personal award for the team's performance in October. I have to thank them for putting in hard work because I would not have got it. It is encouraging during such tough times to be awarded," Polack said.

Polack's 100% record earned his team nine points, leaving him shoulders above other coaches in the running for the October award, including KCB coach Zedekiah Otieno who earned seven points from two victories and a draw.

Despite facing debilitating financial challenges after losing their shirt sponsors four months ago, Gor Mahia have confounded many by staying on a winning run, with Polack attributing their success to the dedication of the players who endure very hard times.

"It is a wonder that despite off-field issues you have continued to achieve great results on the pitch. It is our prayer that you emerge from this stronger and continue with the good job," Fidelity Insurance marketing manager Nicholas Malesi said.

For his reward, Polack received a personalized plaque and Sh75,000 courtesy from the sponsors, following in the footsteps of the last four Gor Mahia coaches who have landed the gong since its inception.
