On September 20, 2016, caretaker Reagan Buluku and gardener Stephen Wanjohi returned from lunch and met Monicah Kimani's brother George and his fiancée at Lamuria Apartments.

George allegedly told Buluku to help him get into the house because his sister was not picking his calls and later the phone was switched off.

Buluku and Wanjohi testified in court on November 27, 2019, about their discovery of Monicah's body.

They heard the TV was on and water was running from a tap inside Monicah's apartment, so Buluku told Wanjohi to bring a ladder to access the third-floor balcony.

Wanjohi used the ladder to reach the balcony and entered the house through a window, but he couldn't see Monicah anywhere.

He then decided to check the bathroom, where he found Monicah's body lying in the bathtub with candles near the tub and tap water running on her body.

According to the caretaker and the gardener, Monicah's hands and legs were tied, and her throat had been slit, with blood around her neck.

Wanjohi screamed to the others outside the door, telling them to break it down as things were not good inside.
