On November 28, 2019, a shocking medical case was reported in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, where a 46-year-old construction worker was found to have tapeworms in his brain.
The worker, identified by a pseudonym Zhu, had been suffering from seizures and was rushed to the hospital in the night.
According to a report from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, Zhu had eaten under-cooked pork and mutton a month prior to the incident, which is suspected to be the cause of the tapeworm infestation.
At the hospital, Zhu's condition was diagnosed as Neurocysticercosis, a rare condition where tapeworms infest the brain.
Doctors at the hospital revealed that Zhu had increased levels of calcium in his skull and wounds, which were likely caused by the tapeworms.
Despite initial reluctance to undergo further tests, Zhu eventually agreed to undergo treatment, and doctors were able to remove the worms that had infested his head.
Fortunately, Zhu recovered from the ordeal, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper food handling and cooking practices.
