Published on November 28, 2019, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has raised concerns over the sale of toxic pesticides to farmers in the country.

The legislator, who was distributing food, blankets, and shoes to the elderly at Ngurubani primary school in Mwea, noted that the national assembly is set to debate the matter before releasing a list of poisonous pesticides and companies producing them.

According to Ngirici, most of the pesticides have been banned in Europe and other countries due to their poisonous nature to human beings.

The lawmaker lamented the unregulated sale of such toxic and unsafe pesticides to farmers by unscrupulous business people who supply their products both locally and internationally.

Ngirici urged farmers to stop purchasing the poisonous pesticides, which have been linked to increased cases of cancer in Mwea and parts of Kirinyaga County.
