On November 27, 2019, a three-hour downpour pounded Narok town, causing widespread disruptions to businesses and infrastructure.
Residents of Narok town were left counting losses running into millions after the heavy downpour destroyed roads and disrupted power supply in some areas.
Businessmen in the town called on the County Government to implement its earlier directive to bring down buildings that have blocked waterways, which they believe contributed to the flooding.
The Maai-Mahiu-Narok-Bomet road was impassable following the deluge, with vehicles packed along the road to allow the water levels to subside.
Narok County Police Commander, John Kizito Mutoro, advised residents living in areas prone to floods and mudslides to move to safer grounds, citing the recent loss of over 50 lives in West Pokot due to mudslides.
Narok County has been plagued by various disasters, including drought, fire, disease outbreaks, road accidents, and floods, resulting in loss of lives and property.
As recently as May 2015, the County lost over 50 people in fire and flood disasters due to heavy El-Nino rains.
