Kenyan singer Nadia Mukami has been making waves in the music industry with her latest release, 'Maombi', a gospel song that has left many wondering if she's ditched secular music for gospel.
However, in a recent interview, Nadia Mukami clarified that 'Maombi' is not a transition from secular to gospel music, but rather a thanksgiving song to God for his presence in her life.
According to Nairobi News, Nadia Mukami stated, 'It's totally a no. I knew that people would take it like that because I have been asked that question a million times but no. As secular artistes, sometimes we even pray a lot.'
She further explained that she draws the line between secular music and her faith in God, saying, 'We do secular music because it's business, it's passion. Music is very universal, you're singing about love even in the Bible there's love so I feel like people confuse it.'
For Nadia Mukami, 'Maombi' is a personal song that she wrote during a difficult time in her life, when she was struggling financially. She attributes the song's creation to the events in her personal life, and the blessings she received afterwards.
She said, 'This is very personal to me. I did this song at a time I was really broke, for many months. That same day that I wrote this song, I got called to be on Coke Studio. So it's a song that is very personal to me just thanking God for what I have been through and not focusing on the negative.'
