East Africa Classic Rally Kicks Off in Mombasa

The Safaricom East African Safari Classic rally, a biennial event, has kicked off in Mombasa on Thursday, November 28, 2019. The rally will take nine days, covering a total competitive distance of 1500 kilometers.

Kenya will have six drivers in the race, including Baldev Chagger, Ian Duncan, and Onkar Rai. The rally will take the drivers and navigators through Kenya, Tanzania, and back to Mombasa, with each car expected to cover between 309 and 500 kilometers each day.

Other notable drivers participating in the event include Stig Blomqvist, who will be co-driven by Jörgen Fornander in a Porsche 911, Kris Rosenberger from Austria, Eugenio Amos from Italy, Jayant Shah from Tanzania, and Gilberto Sandretto among others.

Joe and Kate Hayes, a father-daughter duo, will be making their debut in the Classic rally. The event has been running every two years since its inception in 2003 and is open to two-wheel drive rally cars built before 1985.
