On November 28, 2019, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report was launched, proposing significant changes to Kenya's betting industry.

According to the report, the surge in poverty levels and feelings of hopelessness among citizens can be attributed to the rise of betting in the country.

The BBI recommends replacing private betting firms with a government-run national lottery, which would use its proceeds to uplift the youth, sports, culture, and other social activities beneficial to citizens.

"Replace the private betting industry with a government-run national lottery whose proceeds, as is the case in other countries, are used for activities that uplift the youth, sports, culture and other social activities beneficial to citizens," the BBI recommends.

By taking control of the betting industry, the government aims to promote responsible gambling and reduce the negative impacts associated with it.
