On September 19, 2018, Jacque Maribe, a former Citizen TV news anchor, was in the company of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko at 40Forty Lounge in Westlands, Nairobi. This was one of the two nights investigators suspect Monica Kimani was killed in her Kilimani apartment.

According to a witness, Chelagat Ruto, Maribe spent the night of September 19 at the 40Forty Lounge in the company of Sonko, herself, and another lady identified as Juliet, who was Chelagat's friend.

Chelagat testified that Joseph Irungu, aka Jowie, joined the group at about 1 am on September 20. She recounted the events of that night, stating that she first met Maribe in early 2017 and introduced her to Jowie later that year.

Chelagat also testified that she had gone to Road House restaurant on Dennis Pritt Road at 6:30 pm on September 19, where she met her friend Juliet and Jowie, who was with a male friend. They left the restaurant at around 8:30 pm, and Chelagat went to Citizen TV, where she was invited to watch Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on the Jeff Koinange Live show.

At Citizen TV, Chelagat met Maribe, who requested them to wait for her to complete her work so that she could accompany them to 40Forty Lounge. They left for the lounge at around 11:30 pm in Maribe's car, with Sonko's convoy following.

At 40Forty Lounge, Chelagat was seated with Maribe, Sonko, and Juliet when Jowie joined them at around 1 am on September 20. Jowie took a table a few meters away and ordered a beer. Chelagat left the lounge at around 4 am with her friend Juliet, while Maribe and Jowie left in Maribe's car.
