On November 28, 2019, a court in Nyeri dealt a blow to former Mathira MP Peter Weru's ambitions when it revoked his appointment as chairman of the Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA).

Employment and Labour Relations Court Justice Nzioki wa Makau ruled that Weru's appointment by Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui was illegal, as it did not follow due process.

Justice Makau quashed two gazette notices issued by Chelugui, which purported to appoint Weru as chairman and revoke the appointment of William Wahome Mwangi.

“Gazette notice No 9866 purports to appoint Weru to the position of the chairperson with effect from July 26, 2019. Immediately following is notice NO 9867 of October 17, which purports to revoke appointment of Wahome,” Justice Makau said.

Weru had been seeking to be appointed as chairman of the TWWDA, but his application was dismissed by the court.
